Yoghurt

Yoghurt

2021 | HD Video, ceramics | 5’02” | Variable dimensions

The ceramic objects in Yoghurt are based on 17th century wig stands that were produced in the Netherlands. Although they were initially made to hold wigs, over time these objects lost their original function and were instead kept as ornamental objects. Yoghurt examines whether words can go through a similar process. Can a word that was uttered with a certain intention also change its meaning or function? While showing new uses for the wig stands, Yoghurt questions whether we should focus on the intent with which we say things or the impact they actually have on other people.

Instead of holding on to our initial intentions, we could also let our intentions depend on how other people perceive them. In other words, we say something, then we see how people react to it, and then we adjust the meaning of our message accordingly.
